Read the latest information provided by the Environment Agency to help businesses with waste disposal obligations
Pre-Treatment Requirements
From October 30th 2007, the Pre-treatment requirements of the Landfill Regulations will mean that no waste will be able to be disposed of to landfill unless it can be demonstrated to have undergone a treatment process.
In most cases, it is likely that this will mean a reduction in weight by removing a proportion of the waste for recycling, whether at source through a separate recycling collection or at a sorting facility.
Crapper and Sons is developing solutions to ensure that all of our customers can comply with these requirements. A leaflet with more information is now available by clicking here and Crapper and Sons customers can complete the form online by registering through the Customer Access section.
Hazardous Waste Regulations
The new Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005 were implemented on 16th July 2005. There are many changes to the current Special Waste Regulations, but the two key ones are that Hazardous waste producers will be required to pre-register before any Hazardous waste can be collected from their premises and the Regulations apply the European Waste Catalogue codes of Hazardous wastes that will affect a much wider range of producers.

Producer Responsibility
Producer Responsibility means the chain of production and supply has to take account of the overall environmental impact of their products becoming waste rather than it being left to the last holder or consumer to carry the entire cost.
The legislation seeks to ensure that discarded products are environmentally treated through recycling and recovery rather than disposed of to landfill.
Landfill Directive
The 1999 EU landfill directive applies various requirements to site types depending on whether the site is existing, new, hazardous or non hazardous. Many of the target dates are unconfirmed. However, the list below shows some of the specific requirements of the Directive looking forward towards 2007.
General
A number of other pieces of legislation are being introduced that will affect the way waste is handled and controlled generally.
Waste Acceptance Criteria | Pre-treatment Required | Waste Cooking Oils | UK WEEE Regulations | Agricultural Waste Regulations | UK ELV Regulations | EU Animal By-Products Regulations | EU WEEE Directive | EU Waste Catalogue | Batteries Directive | Hazardous Waste Regulations | Landfill Tax increase £3/yr | Ban on co-disposal | Scottish Special Waste Regulations amendments | ODS Regulations | UK Landfill Regulations | UK Waste Packaging Regulations
