How we operate
We are based at Park Grounds Farm, between Wootton Bassett and Brinkworth on the B4042 and receive waste from all over the south of England. We have facilities for the composting of green waste, wood recycling and the sorting and recycling of skip waste. We also operate an Industrial and Commercial Landfill Site. No matter how well we recycle, there is always something left that has to go to Landfill.
Sorting the waste
After the waste is received, the materials are rigorously sorted in our Materials Recovery Facility to remove and separate recyclable elements such as hard core, plastic, soil, metal and wood.
We recycle some 5,000 tonnes each month, diverting about 92% of all waste material that we recieve, that would otherwise go to landfill.
Acceptable waste
- Non-hazardous builders waste, transfer station waste
- Non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste
Unacceptable
Waste Disposal
The landfill site is planned and engineered to latest industry standards using containment technology to avoid pollution. It sits in a very good geological position as the site has 150 m of Oxford clay under it. The clay is impermeable once it has been engineered and the site produces little methane as the waste is mainly non-biodegradable.
The Landfill has sealed cells for the waste and when they are filled they are covered and sealed with one meter of Oxford clay topped with a mixture of soil and compost. This is then returned to agriculture.
Working with the community
Crapper and Sons operates a liaison committee for the site which includes representatives of the local community. We intend to keep our bond with the local community as strong as possible as we strive for success with the minimal impact on the environment and the surrounding area.
