Crapper and Sons News

Giving back to the community

We chose to divert money that is generated by Landfilll tax to local charties. The charites have to be registered with entrust to allow them to qualilfy for funding. We donate a small percentage of the money ourselves, this money would otherwise go to the goverment. The charities we have given to are:

  • The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust - currently received over £450,000
  • Brinkworth Chuch Roof Fund
  • Somerford Football Club

Renewable Energy Plant

We currently have planning permission to install a renewable energy plant on our site which would supply the national grid with sufficient electricity to power Wootton Bassett, our local town. If you would like more information or have any comments please click here.

Landfill Extension

Although we recycle the majority of the waste that enters our site, there is still always a proporition that cannot be recycled. For this we need a Landfill. We have been Landfilling on the site for the past twenty five years. In September 2010 we received an extension to the existing Landfill, this will allow us to continue with our good work. When we have our renewable energy plant up and running, the amount of waste heading to landfill will be reduced further.

BSI PAS 100 Certification

In 2010 we have concentrated our efforts towards achieving this quality mark by employing a new member of staff (Mark Grierson) to control the Composting Pad and processes, from green material reception right through to the finished product. Several changes were made resulting in Crapper and Sons beginning 2010 with some process changes and improvements in the efficiency of the composting cycle.

We are proud to announce that we have achieved our PAS 100 certification within 6 months of the introduction of these processes and changes. We are now looking forward to selling our high quality soil improver on site; with the intention of bagging it in small quantities to sell in local garden centres as well.

If you would like any further information feel free to contact us, we will be very proud to discuss our compost with you.
